Alice J. Peters
July 17, 1969 - June 8, 2021
Alice J. Peters, 51, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls with her children and family by her side. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, June 14 at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Sioux Falls, with burial at St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 13 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and a Liturgical Wake Service and Holy Rosary starts at 5:00 PM.
Alice Jean Faris, daughter of F. Darrell and Betty Lou (Kout) Faris, was born July 17, 1969 in Sioux Falls, SD. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1987. She graduated from Northern State College in 1992 with a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. She taught Early Childhood in the hills for one year and then returned to Sioux Falls and started working as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher. She also continued her education and completed her master’s degree in special education at University of South Dakota. At the time of her death, she was a teacher for the Birth to Three program for the Sioux Falls School District.
Alice was united in marriage to Richard Peters on August 1, 1992. Alice was a charter member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church and volunteer at the church in many ways. Alice loved camping and spending time at the lake. She cherished her family and loved volunteering and attending the activities her children were involved in. Alice and her children had a very special bond and she was very proud of them. Alice was diagnosed with kidney cancer in March 2020.
Grateful for having shared her life are two children, Michaela Peters and Sidney Peters, both of Sioux Falls, SD; three siblings, Louise Wieman and her husband, Rich, Harrisburg, SD, Rose Olinger and her husband, Don, Sioux Falls, SD, Paul Faris and his friend, Kim Beiningen, Harrisburg, SD; a sister-in-law, Donna Faris, Mason, OH; and many other relatives and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell and Betty; two brothers, John Faris and Earl Faris; and a sister-in-law, Shaun Faris.
