Darrel Otten
March 21, 1941 - June 9, 2021
Darrel Otten, 80, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 14, 2021, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation to a local charity.
Darrel Eugene Otten, son of Herman and Clara (Javers) Otten was born March 21, 1941, in Tea, South Dakota. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era earning his Honorable Discharge in 1969. He was united in marriage to Sharon Litterick on August 16, 1969.
Darrel dedicated 50 years of service to John Morrell and Co. He started on the night cleanup crew and later worked for with the “Maintenance Gang”. Darrel had a lifelong love of the outdoors where he enjoyed all types of hunting and fishing. He kept a bountiful vegetable garden through the years. Many Sundays of young adulthood were spent at Thunder Valley at the race track.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sharon of Sioux Falls; son Derik (Sarah Fisher-Otten) Otten of Eden Prairie, MN; granddaughter Eve; brother, Darwin (Doris) Otten of Tea; sister, Sharon Coffee of Lennox; sister-in-law, Coryel Otten of Tea; and numerous nieces and nephews that he grew quite close with and took on many hunting and fishing trips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Clara; brothers, Ernie (Barbara) Otten and Enno Otten; and sister, Joyce Schultz.
