Jerry J. Roberts
June 23, 1937 - December 14, 2021
Sioux Falls, SD ~ Jerry J. Roberts, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls after a short illness. Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Rev. Laura Borman will be officiating. Family will be present to greet friends for visitation on Saturday at the funeral home from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM.
Jerry was born June 23, 1937 to William and Henrietta (Huisman) Roberts in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Leeds High School, Sioux City in 1957. Always a hard worker as a young man, he worked construction on the first I 29 inter-change at the Combination Bridge in Sioux City. He joined the US Navy Reserves while still in high school. After graduation he served 2 years active duty aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard and 4 years in the Navy Reserve.
Jerry was united in marriage with Elaine Goldsmith on August 23, 1958 at Wesley Methodist Church in Sioux City. They have two sons and a daughter. He worked at Sioux City Dressed Pork/Armours until 1979. He was a past member of Landmark Masonic Lodge 103 and Abu Bekr Shriners. In 1979 the family moved to Sioux Falls and Jerry was a supervisor at John Morrells and later worked at Dakota Foods until retirement. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls.
Jerry enjoyed camping, fishing, fixing things and family time. He loved his kids and grandkids, and favorite farewell greeting was always “Be careful.” He was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, Duane Cole, Corrine Mini, June Hopp, and Darwin, Darold, Ralph and Gilbert Roberts and daughter-in-law, Tyra Roberts.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elaine, sons, Scott (Donna) Roberts, Kevin Roberts, and Julie Roberts (Dennis) and three grandchildren, Taylor Roberts, Carter Roberts and Austin Roberts all of Sioux Falls.
