Lucille F. Schultz
June 11, 1926 - March 29, 2017

Lucille F. Schultz age 90 of Sioux Falls, passed away Wednesday March 29, 2017. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Saturday April 1, at Mt Pleasant Cemetery.

Lucille was a loving wife and caring mother with her life spanning ninety years. During this time, she followed many paths and played several roles with a positive benefit to all around her. During her early years, she worked in a one room rural school, teaching eight separate grades all at the same time. One year was enough of that, so from there she moves to Sioux Falls and worked for a short time at Morrel's, a local meat packing company. It was here in 1946 that Lucille met and married Melvin. They had three children: Jim, Jerry and Cheryl. During her mid-life, she worked at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls as a member of the "Canteen team" selling items of need to the residents and staff of the hospital. Finally, in 1988 Lucille retired from the VA to spend time with Mel to enjoy the quiet life.

Lucille was known for having a meticulously clean home with nothing out of place. She always said that "everything has its place," and she made sure of that. She would follow behind her children (and grandchildren) and Mel just to make sure everything was picked up and placed in its proper place. Lucille spent many years helping Melvin with his car hobby. Together they repaired and sold many cars of various makes and models, with a soft spot for an old "Thunderbird or Continental". Lucille would perform the interior detailing and washing activities and occasionally fixed a torn car seat. This skilled carried over throughout her life and she could still detail a car like no other.

Lucille enjoyed time with friends and family and later in life spending time with her grandchildren: Tim, Elizabeth,Chris, Natalie and Scott. A new found joy arrived this January with coming of her 15th great-grandchild, little Kai. Holding Kai during her final days brought her great joy and a smile from cheek to cheek. Later in life nothing made her happier than having a bucket of KFC on a Sunday afternoon with her great-grandchildren chasing around house. Lucille always liked to have a nice yard with plenty of flowers and bushes, making sure the lawn was green and weed-free. Over the years Lucille developed a liking to red Cardinal birds which she liked to feed with her many bird feeders. This carried over into an extensive cardinal collectable collection. She fancied word search books to occupy the cold winter months and was a master at putting together puzzles. It became a tradition every Christmas that someone would give her a new challenging puzzle. Family would help to complete puzzle and usually glued together to be saved.

Lucille, woman of many talents and always there for her husband Mel and her children and family. She helped in any way possible and never asked for anything in return. She will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved her.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Jerald (Devon) Schultz, of McDonough, GA; Cheryl (Greg) Anderson, Sioux Falls; 5 grandchildren, Tim (Marta), Elizabeth (Michael), Chris (Samantha), Natalie (Andrew), Scottie (Skylar),; 15 great grandchildren, Austin, Reece, Kyle, Ava, Jacob, Kollin, Kai, Ethan, Kylie, Addison, Nathan, Layla, Drew, Luke and Lexi; a sister, Evelyn Jepp, Sioux Falls; several nieces and nephews and a very dear friend, Juanita Benson, Sioux Falls.

Her parents, husband Melvin, son James and brother Wayne, preceded her in death.
