Robert “Bob” Alvin James Fleming, 85, passed away peacefully April 22 after battling liver cancer.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 29 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1501 W. 26th Street, Sioux Falls, SD with interment at St. Michael Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 6:30 pm with a service at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, April 28 at Miller Funeral Home-Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.

Born on June 24, 1935 in Sioux Falls, SD, at McKennan Hospital, Bob was the son of Sylvester and Dorothy (Brower) Fleming. Bob was one of three siblings.

Bob married the love of his life, Janice (Judy) Barnes December 21, 1955. They raised five children: Bridget Lammers (Joe), Timothy (Joni), Albert (Elia), Robert, Anthony “Andy” (Jennifer). Robert joins his brother, William Fleming, in heaven and leaves a legacy of family including his wife and children, a sister, Joann McGill, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom he was very proud and loved. He held special admiration and respect for Deacon Leon Cantin, who would visit Bob regularly for communion and fellowship.

After graduating from St. Joseph Cathedral High School in 1953, Bob joined the Marine Corps. With his family, they lived across the country while he served a twenty-year career. After retirement they returned to Sioux Falls, where he obtained a degree in computer programming from Dakota State and worked as a programmer for the next 15 years until retirement.

Bob was a member of Christ the King Church and the VFW. He was a passionate Marine who loved his country and his family. Bob enjoyed watching professional wrestling, reading, talking politics and spending time with his wife and family. As Bob would have said, “Semper Fi”.
