James R. St. Clair
November 06, 1929 - January 18, 2021
James R. St. Clair, 91, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 in Phoenix, AZ. His funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 30 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls, and will be livestreamed. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation begins at 5:00 PM Friday, January 29 at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
James Ralph St. Clair, son of Charles and Rose (Sauer) St. Clair, was born November 6, 1929 in Webster, SD. At an early age he moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD where he grew up and received his education. He also helped on the family farm.
Jim was united in marriage with Edith McGilvrey on March 5, 1949 in Sioux Falls. The couple made their home and raised their family there. Jim established a garbage hauling company, Jim’s Sanitary Service, which he owned and operated for many years. He later was a founding hauler of A-1 Sanitary Service. Through the years, Jim also worked at times for John Morrell & Company, Ben-Hur Ford and drove truck for Midwest Coast Transport and Vaughn Trucking.
Jim was a long-time member of Wild Flower Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder there. Jim and Edith enjoyed RVing and belonged to the Tri-State RV Camping Club. Jim also liked to work on cars and trucks and belonged to a Model A club.
Grateful for having shared his life are his loving wife of almost 72 years, Edith; four children, Carol Vig and her husband, Harold, Scottsdale, AZ, Peggy Jensen, Brant Lake, SD, Bill St. Clair and his wife, Connie, Sioux Falls, SD, Cindy St. Clair, Glendale, AZ; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose St. Clair; a sister, Leona St. Clair; and a brother, Walter St. Clair.
