Leon Watne, 93, of Sioux Falls, died Sunday, September 24th while attending a military reunion in Omaha, NE.
Leon Norman Watne was born June 21, 1924 in Sioux Falls. He grew up in Sioux Falls where he received his education. Leon entered military service and served in the US Navy during World War II.
Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Sioux Falls where he was a general contractor for a majority of his adult life. He married Lillian Strasser On August 11, 1946 at Fairview, SD. Leon retired in 2011.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Burl (Nancy) Watne of Sioux Falls, SD; one grandchild, Kenneth (K.C.) Watne; two sisters, Luverl (Erling) Thomson and Donna Webster, both of Sioux Falls, SD; and his good friend, Shirley Gortmaker of Sioux Falls. Leon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian in 1993 and a daughter, Pamela Bradbury.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 am Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:30-7:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
