Christopher Lee Blackwelder was born in Canby, MN on November 4th, 1978 to Richard and Linda Blackwelder. He was taken to his heavenly home on January 30th, 2021 due to a pulmonary embolism.

He grew up in Canby, MN very active in playing sports and Boys Scouts. Chris developed his love of technology at a young age and was involved in network and repairs for the high school.

His love of sports continued when he played football at Dakota State University. After college, he started coaching youth sports.

Chris was united in marriage on May 18th, 2002 to Emily Tesch of Watertown, SD. They built a house in Sioux Falls, SD. He started working at Rosenbauer in January 2006.

Chris would tell you his biggest accomplishment was his children. His son, Payton John, was born March 22, 2006; his daughter, Elizabeth Ann, was born March 15, 2011; and son, Noah Ronald, was born August 3, 2013. Chris coached for Noah and Payton’s football, baseball, and basketball teams. He coached basketball for Elizabeth’s team. Chris went to every sporting event and loved watching his children play. His children’s sporting events became his highlight.

Eternally blessed to share Chris’ life with his wife Emily,; children Payton, Elizabeth, Noah; parents, Richard and Linda Blackwelder of Canby, MN; brother, Matt (Carrie) Blackwelder of Watertown, SD; brother, Jeremy (Kristina) Blackwelder of Granite Falls, MN; great grandmother, Frances Koenen of Clara City, MN; in laws, Ron and Kim Tesch of Watertown, SD; brother in laws, Ben Tesch of Sioux Falls, SD and Andrew (Sarah) Tesch of Chaska, MN; sisters in laws, Alicia (Derek) Hartke of Sioux Falls, SD and Megan (Robert) Herr of Watertown, SD. Chris is also survived by nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandfather, Kenneth Koenen of Clara City, MN; and Robert and Arleen Blackwelder of Breckenridge, MN.

Visitation and funeral services will take place at Peace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021 and funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2021, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Peace Lutheran will live stream Chris' funeral.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorials be directed to Chris' three children. The family has a two savings accounts set up at First Bank and Trust. One savings account is designated for the kid's activity fund and one trust for their future educational and college expenses.
