Alfred Brude Dies Returning Home From Day's Work

Alfred Brude, a resident of this county since birth, passed away very suddenly Monday evening of this week from the effect of a heart attack.

Mr. Brude was returning to his home from the day's work at the L.G. Everist Stone Company, and was within a half block of home when stricken. A neighbor, Oscar Leum, saw Mr. Brude approaching; he was whistling and appeared to be in the best of health. When Mr. Leum glances up the second time intending to call to him, he saw Mr. Brude lying in the street, face down. He rushed to his aid, and turned him over, and there was only one deep breath. He had died almost instantly.

Alfred Brude was born in Minnehaha County, near Baltic, the son of Paul and Beret Brude, November 10, 1888. He grew to manhood in that vicinity, assisting with the work on his father's farm until July 23, 1918, when he entered the U.S. Army. He trained at Fort Dodge and was later sent overseas serving with the 316 Labor Battalion Quarter Master Corps, until his discharge August 6th, 1919.

He was united in marriage to Clara Moen April 22, 1922. They farmed near Baltic until 1938, when they moved to Dell Rapids, where they have resided since resided.

He is survived by his widow and three sons, Percy, Clifford and Kenneth, all at home; also one brother John Brude of Lyons survives, and three sisters, Mrs. Paul Reppe of Brookings, Mrs. Ole Bratsburg and Mrs. Nick Gill of Zahl, North Dakota.

Funeral services will be conducted t the Hermanson Funeral chapel in Dell Rapids Friday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock and at the East Nidaros church near Baltic, of which the deceased had been a life long member, at 2 o'clock. Rev. E.L. Bentson, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Full military services will be conducted by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
