The mission of this project is to capture digital images of gravestones of our ancestors. As decades pass -- many stones are becoming harder, if not impossible, to read the inscriptions they originally contained.
By archiving the images, we can help save these important records and also assist researchers using this valuable resource.

Browse over 156,000 gravestone photo records from across the state of South Dakota!
More and more often we see reports of brass and metal items being stolen from cemeteries and being sold to recyclers, everything from entire lengths of fencing to Military markers, brass gravestones and flower holders. Many of these including 6' metal grave crosses show up for sale on a national selling site. When you might be out in a cemetery this summer, please take note of anything out of the ordinary and don't be offended if someone questions as to what you are doing as they are most likey also concerned about their cemetery.
